Generally I am not a fan of plastic models or multi part kits but I have a soft spot in my heart for these plastic Genestealer Hybrids from Space Hulk. The Genestealer Cults are in my opinion one of the most interesting and compelling aspects of the Warhammer 40k universe. Have we not all had that feeling, at one time or another, that those in positions of power and authority were under the influence of demon worshipping aliens? Can we also all just please take a moment to appreciate the greatness of the old plastic “Chaos Heavy Weapons Sprue”.

ME41 Goblin Wolfrider
ME41 Goblin Wolf Rider. Citadel Lord of the Rings. This chap has such a sweet Rankin and Bass/ Brothers Hildebrandt/ 70s fantasy vibe. I’m thinking I’ll use him as a champion or hero for my wolf riders. I am a total sucker for mounted/unmounted figure sets. A close cousin to the classic low-mid-high level adventurer 3 figure sets. Figure sculptors, if you are reading, please reinstitute this practice!
Hobhounds and Handlers
Hobhounds being taken for walkies by their hobgoblin beast masters. Some more of Aly Morrison’s superb hobgoblins. Beast handlers and their menagerie of vicious pets were a staple troop type for a lot of armies in early editions of Warhammer, and including a unit gives a nice old school flavour to an army I reckon. The hobhounds are really odd models. They look like a cross between a pit bull, a babboon, and some kind of Pleistocene hyena. For painting inspiration I looked to the Thylacine, or Tasmanian Tiger- a fascinating and unusual Australian carnivorous marsupial that was appallingly hunted to extinction in the 20th century.
Roman Officer
Roman Officer wearing Lorica Squamata (scale armour) and a “Theilenhofen” pseudo-Attic helmet. I’ve been using some Little Big Men shield transfers for the first time in this project- really makes some of the complex designs such as the Dura Europos style shields much easier.
