Roman Standard Bearers
A few Roman Standard bearers I have painted up. The Aquilifer bears the legion’s sacred eagle symbol- which in this case is a live caged eagle. The Vexillifer carries a flag topped with a statue of Minerva. And the Signifer holds a standard with the symbol of the legion (a Capricorn), and displays the various honours and decorations awarded to the unit. The vexillum displays the name of the legion as Legio IIII Scythica, as the commonly used Roman numeral for 4 at this time was iiii rather than iv. He also carries a shield with an image of Mithras, a Persian deity venerated by many legionaries.
